Some Lies, a Truth and Feelin' the Blues

Hi beauties! I hope that this post finds everyone doing well. I have my hair and makeup trial tonight for the wedding so I will be sure to post some pics tomorrow. I actually have a very exciting weekend coming up- my bridal shower is on Saturday (which, by the way, also marks one month to the wedding)! My awesome matron of honor, Christina has been hard at work to put together something great. Annnd, tomorrow my office is throwing me a shower! I am one lucky girl.

The only damper on the upcoming festivities is the dang winter storm that is hitting the Northeast. Bri was supposed to come up for the weekend to attend the work shower (it's customary, I guess) and to see me. The weather is preventing that. My mom was flying in from California, and she had to cancel her flight due to weather issues. Other friends/family members from out of town are likely to not come to the shower because of all the snow. I have been pretty bummed about that for the past two days. What do you guys do to get yourself out of a bad mood?
I am a very happy person and to me having a bad mood almost seems indulgent- like, get a grip Katie, there are people out there that struggle with real problems. On the other hand, I tried everything I could to lift my mood yesterday- watching funny youtube videos, thinking about upcoming events- to no avail. Perhaps sometimes out moods are beyond our control? I did start to feel better after my body sculpting class. It always kicks my booty!

In any event, I made a kick ass dinner yesterday- whole wheat pasta with shrimp and basil in a "creamy" nutmeg sauce. One of these days I will actually take a picture of my food and post the recipe for you guys- it's really delicious! In fact, I'm currently eating some of the leftovers now for an early dinner before my appointments. I'm feeling very frugal in packing my dinner and eating it before I leave work.
One of my fave bloggies, Lindsey @ Eat Read Run passed along the "creative writer" blogger award to me.

Now I am supposed to list six lies and one truth about myself. Y'all have to guess which one is true!

  1. I was almost bitten by a cow in Ireland when I tried to pet it.
  2. I've practiced speaking Gaelic with a drunken old Irish man in Dublin.
  3. I can still do a back handspring.
  4. I was born without wisdom teeth.
  5. The most adventurous/out there food I've ever tried is bear meat.
  6. I was the lead vocal in my high school musicals.
  7. I love white zinfandel.

Now I am supposed to tag some peeps, but I have to head off to my appointments. If you are reading this, consider yourself tagged and play along!

I hope everyone has a great rest of the week, and I'll be back tomorrow with some trial run pictures! Happy Thursday :)

  1. So sorry to hear about all the bad weather messing up your plans. I know a nice glass of vino always hits the spot! ;) But I bet you already thought of that? Hang in there - I will send good happy sunshine vibes!

Have so much fun this weekend and happy one month till your wedding! How freaking exciting! Are you guys going on a honeymoon and if so where?

  2. Awww, I'm sorry. That sucks :-( Sometimes, when I'm in a bad mood, I have to just let myself wallow in it for a while, instead of trying to snap out of it right away.

  3. I think a glass of white zin and a mani/pedi might do the trick!

I can't even wager a guess about what is true in that list!

  4. I'm sorry about the shower :( To get myself out of a bad mood, I usually talk to friends or take a bubble bath. I'm going to go with...#4??

  5. Hi Katie,
I am sorry you are having the blues:( Cheer up!!! THink of all of the wonderful things that you have going for you...a great career, a great future hubby, you have many wonderful friends and family who love you...blogger friends included:)

I am going with #3 but think it also could be #4! Thats my story and I am sticking to it!! Happy Thursday Katie!!

  6. If it's number 7...I share the love! Sad to admit.

    But I think it's really...#2.

Shrimp and basil with a creamy nutmeg sauce sounds quite tasty!

  7. Ahh, the weather's always getting me down. I think you have to acknowledge that it sucks, but like you said, realize that there are bigger issues in the world and move on. And I can't wait to see bridal shower pix! Smile pretty with your new toaster for us!

Can't wait to see the trial-run hair and makeup! Ahhh!

    I say #2@

  8. Don't feel bad about being bummed. Your shower is an important event, and how can you not be disappointed about Bri not coming on Friday. The moments we are feeling down, make us truly appreciate the happy ones. I am guessing you were born without wisdom teeth. I hope you have a fantastic time, and I think it is pretty safe to say Christina will make you smile :-)

  9. I think it's normal to be emotional around wedding time and I was surprised at what upset me when it was my turn. I would be disappointed if the weather was ruining my fun too! I think the best thing to do is what you have been doing- look forward to it, have lots of fun, and maybe try on your cute dress that you'll be wearing- that always gets me pumped!

By the way- one month?!? Crazy!!!! Enjoy the ride!

  10. Cheer up bestie!! Today will be a fantastic work shower and I will be there to fill in as your other half! ;-) When you get in a bad/sad mood, just think, one more month you will not only be Mrs. Brian Hodgdon but you will be in HAWAII!! WOOT WOOT!! Don't fret about the shower tomorrow. Even if a few can't make it, you will still have a blast! Can't wait for you to see what I have planned for flowers, decorations, etc.!! Just remember with your wine theme, you will be getting so many varieties of wine! That should kick the blues!

I am going to guess that number 1 is true. I can so see that happening to you! You will need to reply to this post and fill everyone in on which one is true!
