The Accidental Pescetarian and Some Honeymoon Pics!

Hi friends! Happy Tuesday. My legs are STILL sore from my hill workout on Sunday. I guess that means I really worked hard? Haha. Yesterday I took a much needed rest day. I could probably still go for one today but I have my normal vinyasa yoga class, which will probably help work out the kinks.

Things have still been pretty hectic 'round these here parts, so I haven't composed a proper honeymoon recap yet. I'm not really good with recaps or reviews I think- I get impatient! Anyway, here are some of the pictures (we [Brian, aka Mr. Camera Happy] took over 600!).
At the indoor(!!) luau. We were bummed that it was indoors but apparently the weather called for rain. It didn't seem as authentic, although the performers were amazing. One of the dudes pulled me up onstage to do some sort of Polynesian dance, which was hilarious.
Hiking the Kalualua trail. The trail was SO beautiful. I didn't pack my hiking boots so my running shoes are now stained with red dirt. It adds to the hardcore-ness, right?

Double rainbow!!! We took a catamaran cruise to the Napali coast, which resulted in some of the most amazing photos EVA. Like this one:

Beautiful sunset!
So back to the topic currently on my mind- FOOD. This past weekend I was thinking and I realized that I had not had ANY meat, all week. This wasn't intentional; it was simply how my eats worked out for the week. My standard day of eats is typically:
Breakfast: Greek yogurt/granola/coffee
Snack: Bar of some sort (Larabar, Luna bar, Kashi bar)
Lunch: Amy's Cheddar or Southwestern Burrito/Amy's cheddar veggie burger
Snack: Apple/PB
Snack3(if heading to gym): half a bar
Dinner: Random. It depends on if I've meal planned for the week. Last week I had haddock, sushi, and Annie's whole wheat mac n cheese with peas and edamame on the side, among other things.
Snack: glass of wine/piece of dark chocolate
-I also drink at LEAST 64 oz of water
As you can see, there is no meat in there! I realize a lot of the foods are processed but I do try to incorporate fresh foods into my dinners, which usually results in leftovers. What do you typically have for lunch?
Anyway, yesterday I decided I was due for steak. I had steak, one clam casino, sweet potato fries and zucchini/squash. I felt so gross afterwards! I probably only had three ounces of steak and it was sitting in my stomach like a brick. Blech. This morning I still felt nauseous! I love a great cheeseburger, but this experience has me contemplating seriously cutting red meat out of my diet. Currently the only meat I do not eat is pork. I think the transition to a non-red meat diet could be difficult but after analyzing how I'm feeling this morning coupled with how awesome I felt last week, maybe it won't be! What's your eating style? What has influenced your eating habits?
Thanks for your tips on running hills! And Wendy, the juicer is NOT difficult to clean. The pulp is virtually dry so it's super easy. However, I don't know if I would call it dishwasher safe. I also don't mind handwashing dishes, so that is something to take into consideration.
Have a great Tuesday everyone!

  1. Beautiful honeymoon pics! I want to go on a tropical vacay!

My lunch typically consists of leftovers. I love it! You can't go wrong with a homecooked meal for lunch.

  2. Wow-- amazing pictures!!! Don't you just love honeymoons? ;-)

For lunch, I usually keep it simple with a wrap or a salad. It works!

  3. Love your pictures! The double-rainbow should = goodluck! :) As for my eating style maybe you should call me a chicken-tarian. I eat ground turkey on occasion, but besides sushi, chicken is typically the only meat I eat. Everyday I think I could be vegetarian because I really don't eat that much meat, but there are just some dishes like my dad's famous lasagna that make me realize I could never fully commit. But I think it's good to listen to your body and if it's saying blecccch to certain meats then that is that.

  4. Love the honeymoon pictures! I really only eat white meat and that works for me. I also don't get a ton of meat into my diet for the same reasons as you. I just make sure to take a vitamin to get the iron I need.

  5. Thanks for letting me know! ;-) I LOVE your pictures. They are so beautiful! That is funny, I am not a fan of pork either, and don't typically eat it unless there is no way around. For instance if I'm at a friend's for dinner or something. With red meat I don't eat very much, and in fact don't crave it hardly ever. Once in a while I will feel like it so I listen to my body and eat it then, but most of the time I don't feel like I NEED it. Have a wonderful day!

  7. Pretty pictures. Where in HI did you go? We're going to Maui.

I have a Breville Juicer and I put it in the dishwasher. I mean, obviously not the base, but the other parts.

  9. I definitely can accidentally go a week only eating fish. I don't eat red meat at all and I usually don't bother cooking chicken at home, but I will order it out occasionally. No purposeful reason, just what I like I guess :)

Thanks so much for posting some honeymoon pics and letting me see your albums on facebook. They definitely pumped me up for Hawaii more. I guess I'm just nervous about the amount of money spent and the fact that my fiance and I are a little different as far as what we like to do on beach vacations. Hopefully it will be so gorgeous there we won't care!

  10. Your honeymoon pix are amazing! You guys are too cute together. I love it!

I have recently become a flexitarian because my fiance prefers to eat as little meat as possible. I don't miss meat at all, and I'm the girl who loves burgers, wings, you name it. I think the fact that I always have the option -- I usually order meat when we go out -- is what keeps it from feeling like I'm limited.

Plus, it is a lot cheaper to eat flex/vegetarian than to buy meat!

  11. Your honeymoon looks amazing! Such beautiful photos. I always say I would get married all over again just to go on a honeymoon :)

I am a flexitarian and don't tend to eat meat during the week. I haven't eaten red meat or pork for about 14 years (but will try filet mignon once every couple of years) and will have some organic poultry if I know who made it and how it was prepared.
I find getting protein from plants and dairy works for me and I'm not an endurance athlete so it works for me!

  12. Any chance you went on Captain Andy's Catamaran around the Napali Coast? We have some similar pics from our sunset cruise. And you totally beat our photog total - I think we hit about 350. And my husband totally morphed into a crazy photographer as well. It was all him. Looks like a great trip.

  13. Hey Katie! I'm just catching up on the last few posts....your wedding photos are simply stunning!! beautiful honeymoon pics as well!

Hmmm, what do I eat for lunch, usually leftovers since I'm usually at home feeding the kids lunch. Othewise I love black bean burgers on sandwhich thins, with a bit of cheese and a ton of salsa. Or a basic turkey or tuna sandwhich works too!

  14. Your pictures are beautiful, Katie! Food...I love food! I'm no good for lunch ideas because we're on a split schedule here so I just eat a sandwich with one of the kids. When it comes to meat, I don't eat it. Life is so much better without it, at least for me. I do eat things with eggs in it (cake & cookies) and fish occasionally, but that is it for me. I changed because of GI issues, but it would have happened anyway.
